Ivy collection for Freifrau (2025)
With Ivy we present a new seating collection that sets new standards both visually and conceptually.
Designed for Freifrau, Ivy expands the portfolio with a line that, for the first time, features a visibly crafted wooden shell. Its floral design language defines the character of the chair and brings a new aesthetic to the Freifrau world – especially in the colored versions, which were created in cooperation with wood specialist Schotten & Hansen. Until now, wood was primarily used as a structural material at Freifrau – with Ivy, it becomes a central design element. The organically shaped shell, reminiscent of a flower, gives the chair an elegant, calm aura. This is made possible by an innovative structure, developed specifically for Ivy: At the core, molded wood wool provides stability and flexibility. High-quality oak veneer refines the surface. The wood wool inside the shell, combined with the precious veneer, enables complex, three-dimensional shapes, creates a springy effect, and thus supports the chair's ergonomic properties. "We wanted to create a shell that, through its shape and surface, clearly stands out from our previous models," says Managing Director Marc Helweg. "Sebastian Herkner succeeded in implementing precisely this requirement in his design – while also meeting our comfort and quality requirements with a high level of sophistication." Herkner adds:
"The design is soft and organic, and conveys a high level of seating comfort at first glance."
